Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to data when you use Road Clarity, a reference site for general driving rules by country and route. It applies to Road Clarity’s own pages and tools — not to the official government or operator websites we link to.

Road Clarity doesn’t require an account, and there are no sign-up forms, contact forms, or other places on the site where you’re asked to submit personal information.

The country pickers on the “Trip checklist & route” and “Licence checker” pages keep your selections only in your browser’s memory for the current visit — they aren’t sent to or stored on our servers, and reloading the page clears them. The trip checklist’s “mark as prepared” checkboxes are the one exception: those are saved in your browser’s local storage (not on our servers) so your progress is still there if you come back to the same countries later. You can clear this at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for Road Clarity.

Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically logs standard technical information for security and performance purposes — things like IP address, browser type, and which pages were requested. We don’t use this to identify individual visitors.

Road Clarity uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the site is used — for example, which pages are visited and how people move between country pages. This only happens if you accept analytics cookies in the banner shown on your first visit. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time using “Cookie preferences” in the footer.

When enabled, Google Analytics collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location (derived briefly from IP address, which Google doesn’t store), and device or browser type. This data is processed by Google under its own Privacy Policy.

Road Clarity does not currently display advertisements. If that changes — for example, if we begin showing ads through Google AdSense — this section will be updated, and ad-related cookies will be subject to the same consent choice described above. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can view and adjust how Google personalizes ads to you at Google Ads Settings.

Country pages link out to official government, traffic-authority, and toll-operator websites as sources. Once you leave Road Clarity, that site’s own privacy policy applies — we don’t control and aren’t responsible for their practices.

Road Clarity isn’t directed at children and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.

We may update this policy as the site changes — for example, if we add advertising or analytics. The “last updated” date above will reflect the most recent revision.
