Driving in Ukraine

This page is a general reference to Ukraine's peacetime road rules, and it should not be used to plan a trip under current conditions. Ukraine is affected by active armed conflict. Road access, border crossings, fuel availability, curfews and general safety all differ substantially from normal travel, and large parts of the country are unsafe or inaccessible to civilian travellers. Conditions also change far faster than any reference page can track. If you are considering travel, your own government's current official advisory is the source to rely on — not this page, and not general driving guidance of any kind. For completeness, the standing rules are a zero alcohol limit for all drivers, dipped headlights required day and night year-round, and limits of 50 in towns, 90 on rural roads and 130 on the motorway. There are no general road tolls. Winter tyres are not required nationwide by law, though the climate makes them sensible.
