Driving in Kosovo

Kosovo is toll-free, uses the euro and runs a zero alcohol limit — a straightforward combination once you have dealt with the paperwork question. That question is recognition. Kosovo's statehood is not recognised by every country, and this can occasionally complicate cross-border documents, vehicle insurance and rental terms in ways that have nothing to do with the driving itself. Confirm what your insurer and rental agreement actually cover before you travel, particularly if your route continues into or out of Serbia. The euro is used despite Kosovo not being an EU member, so there is no currency to change if you are arriving from the eurozone. The alcohol limit is zero for all drivers. Headlights are required day and night, year-round. Winter tyres or chains can be required on mountain roads in winter conditions. Limits are 50 in towns, 80 on rural roads and 130 on the motorway.
