Grenoble's low-emission zone runs only on weekday daytimes, so evenings and weekends are unrestricted whatever you drive. It also sits in an unusually long grace period: penalties tied to your Crit'Air class are suspended until mid-2027 — though driving with no sticker at all is still punishable.

Which vehicles are affected
Grenoble applies the stricter national tier, restricting cars from Crit'Air 3 upward. Check your vehicle's Crit'Air class before travelling, since the thresholds have tightened on a national timetable rather than a local one.
Registering a foreign or rental vehicle
A Crit'Air sticker is required for any motorised vehicle in the zone, foreign plates included, and it cannot be bought on arrival. Order from the official government site ahead of your trip: €3.11 plus €2.00 postage outside France, using a legible photo or scan of your registration document, delivered by post.
Fees & fines
A "pedagogical" period runs until 30 June 2027, during which no fine is issued over your Crit'Air class itself. Not having a sticker at all remains punishable, so don't read the grace period as permission to travel without one.
How it's enforced
Checked at roadside; the sticker must be displayed on the windscreen.
Exemptions
A day pass admits any vehicle for up to 12 days a year. Further derogations cover vehicles driving under 5,000 km a year, regular medical appointments (at least six a year), shift workers starting before 06:30 or finishing after 19:30, holders of a "Carte Mobilité Inclusion mention stationnement", charitable organisations and collectors' vehicles.
