Toulouse: ZFE Toulouse Métropole
Toulouse runs a notably more permissive zone than Lyon or Strasbourg: it suspended its planned Crit'Air 3 ban in 2023, so ordinary mid-2000s cars are still allowed in. It also offers the most generous escape hatch of the French zones covered here — a pass good for up to 52 days a year.

Which vehicles are affected
Since January 2023, vehicles classed Crit'Air 4, Crit'Air 5 and unclassified are banned from driving and parking in the zone. The planned extension to Crit'Air 3 was suspended in October 2023, so Crit'Air 3 cars — and Crit'Air 2 diesels — remain permitted. Confirm before travelling: this is exactly the kind of decision that gets revisited.
Registering a foreign or rental vehicle
A Crit'Air sticker is required for any motorised vehicle, foreign plates included, and cannot be bought on arrival. Order it from the official government site ahead of your trip: €3.11 plus €2.00 postage outside France, with a legible photo or scan of your registration document, sent to you by post.
How it's enforced
Checked at roadside; the sticker must be displayed on the windscreen.
Exemptions
A "Pass ZFE" lets an otherwise-banned vehicle drive and park inside the zone for up to 52 days a year — the most generous occasional-access allowance among the French zones covered here.
Where the zone is
About 72 km², covering most of Toulouse plus the edges of Tournefeuille and Colomiers — bounded by the périphérique to the east, south and north, and by the rocade Arc-en-Ciel and the RD901/A621 to the west.
